Today, Marie decides to leave her husband: "Let me tell you something. I find my husband so God damned irritating that I’m planning to leave him. And that’s a fact." But in Wallace Shawn's 1978 American masterpiece, facts are slippery things. In this radical re-imagining at JACK, two multi-disciplinary artists play the combative titular couple and head up the design team. Joined by an ensemble of some of Brooklyn's sharpest comedic voices, Gordon Landenberger (Bruce) and trans actress Theda Hammel (Marie) double as the set and sound designers, respectively, for this hilarious and timely new production.

Knud Adams (director) is a director of new and experimental plays. His recent productions include Tin Cat Shoes (Trish Harnetiaux, Clubbed Thumb), Aloha, Aloha, or When I Was Queen (Eliza Bent, Abrons), The Workshop (Torrey Townsend, Soft Focus), Asshole (Justin Kuritzkes, JACK), On a Clear Day I Can See to Elba (Eliza Bent, The New Ohio), Every Angel is Brutal (Julia Jarcho, Clubbed Thumb), Tom & Eliza (Celine Song, JACK), That Poor Girl and How He Killed Her (Jen Silverman, U. of Rochester), Krazytown (Jenny Schwartz, NYU), and Snore (Max Posner, Juilliard). He is a Drama League Artist in Residence and a former Drama League Directing Fellow, Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab member, and Playwrights Horizons Directing Resident.
Theda Hammel (Performer + sound designer) has released three EPs (Very Great, SondHamm, and Partial Magic) under the name “HAMM.” She’s played a variety of New York City venues including The Bell House, Littlefield, Union Hall, and Joe’s Pub, as well as at Bard College’s Fisher Center. For many years, she co-hosted Ars Nova’s Showgasm with homosexual comedian John Early. In 2017, she interviewed trans luminary Kate Bornstein live onstage at La Mama for the Squirts: Generations of Queer Performance Festival. She has a Masters in Music Technology from NYU Steinhardt.
Gordon Landenberger (Performer + set designer) is a performer and set designer for theater and dance. Recent design credits include Jeremy O. Harris’s Slave Play at Yale School of Drama, Patricia Hoffbauer's Getting Away with Murder at La MaMa, John Jahnke's Alas the Nymphs which premiered in the 2015 Next Wave Festival at BAM, Laurel Atwell's Double Take, and David Neumann's Restless Eye at New York Live Arts, which was nominated for the 2012 Henry Hewes Design Award. Recent performance credits include Francis Weiss-Rabkin's Won't be a Ghost at Dixon Place, Leah Hennessey's Bacchus, and the web series ZHE ZHE.
Matt Barats (Performer) is an NYC writer and comedian via Chicago. He was part of the 2015 New Faces at Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, a long-time cast member of The Holy Fuck Comedy Hour, co-creator of the play Sadie Hawkins Day (JFL, SF Sketchfest), and has contributed to The Onion and The New Yorker. TV credits include HBO’s High Maintenance and TBS’s The Last O.G. Matt’s short film Improv is Love is a Vimeo “Staff Pick” and you should watch it.
Kate McGee (lights) is a trans*everything lighting designer. Recent work includes: Emily's D+ Evolution World Tour (Esperanza Spalding), A Hunger Artist (Sinking Ship Productions), Ain’t No Mo’, and Masculinity Max (The Public Theater), [50/50] Old School Animation (Under the Radar, The Public Theater), Sound House (New Georges), My Lingerie Play (Rattlestick Playwright's Theater), Mechanics of Love (To-By-For Productions), Kidnap Road (La Mama), Carnival of the Animals and The Bremen Town Band (The Miller Theater), The Hour of the Star adapted and directed by Dara Malina (Columbia Stages), and Early Plays (New York City Players/Wooster Group, Henry Hewes Award Nomination, with Aaron Deyo).
Peter Mills Weiss (Performer) is a monologist, theater artist, and comedian. His work has been seen at Little Theatre at Dixon Place, CATCH Performance Series, and PS122’s COIL Festival. Make people, his last show, was presented as part of LaMaMa’s 2015 -16 season. He is a 2015 Target Margin Theater Fellow, 2017 HB Studio Resident, and a 2017-2018 member of the Public Theater’s Devised Theater Working Group. His next work with Julia Mounsey, while you were partying, is under development within Soho Rep's 2017-2019 Writer/Director Lab.
Eudora Peterson (Performer) is a Brooklyn based comedian and writer, whose work has been featured on The Huffington Post, Splitsider, Jezebel, and HBO. She has toured nationally with Handmaid’s Tale: The Musical, and she performs regularly at various theaters and comedy venues throughout the city.
Lorelei Ramirez (Performer) is an artist, comedian, performer, and writer based in Brooklyn, New York. She hosts a monthly variety show called NOT DEAD YET at C'mon Everybody on the third Sunday of the month. She's performed at Caroline's, UCB, Ars Nova, The Special without Brett Davis, The Chris Gethard Show,The Annoyance Theatre, BHQFU, The Cinderblock Comedy Festival, The Brooklyn Comedy Festival and has exhibited her work at Family Business Gallery, The Living Gallery, Cloud City and The Experiment Comedy Gallery. She's written for VICE's Creators Project, Cracked, and Art In America.
Alexandra Tatarsky (Performer) makes performances in the unfortunate in-between zone of comedy, dance, and deluded rant. Their shows Americana Psychobabble and Sign Felt have been described as "Brecht... with a buttplug" and "like someone took acid with too much speed in it." Venues around town include La Mama, MoMa PS1, Bronx Art Space, New Museum, The Kitchen, Brooklyn Museum, La Plaza Cultural, PS 122, The Brick, Gibney Dance, Gotham Comedy Club, Judson Church and many bars. They are a 2017-18 Movement Research Artist-in-Residence. Current interests include self-loathing, psychoanalysis, street mimes, and acrylic nails.
