HIRING Production and Tech Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION: Brooklyn performance meets civic space JACK seeks an experienced and dependable team member to serve as key point person to oversee the production and technical aspects of JACK’s performances and rentals in our flexible 74 person capacity performance space. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about all areas of technical design, including lighting, sound, and projection and have excellent planning and communication skills.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with artists and renters in advance of their engagements to plan and implement technical needs ensuring that they are in accordance with JACK’s guidelines; 

  • Assist Co-Directors in the prompt and effective scheduling/hiring of all hourly technical and event support positions.

  • Coordinate and oversee all production/events including both load-ins and strikes (light hang & focus, building/breakdown of risers, scenery installation/construction, audio setup, etc.;)

  • Supervise rentals - prepare the space, orient renters, and assist in any break down/strike that needs to happen afterwards; 

  • Serve as the main JACK representative in the space should an issue arise and coverage be required on site.

  • Ensure all projects are being conducted in a manner that is safe for artists, audiences, and staff including maintaining fire code and legal regulations. 

  • Manage the condition of the physical space, including overseeing maintenance projects and contractors, troubleshooting technical issues with equipment as needed;

  • Maintain thorough records of technical needs, venue purchasing, and corresponding inventory;

  • Run the light or sound board for performances as needed (approximately 60 - 70 performances a year, for an average of 6 performances per month); 

  • Coordinate with House/Production Stage Management teams and renters to ensure smooth operations during performances.

  • Ability to read and translate technical drawings - e.g. hang and focus a lighting plot with minimal direction.

  • Familiarity with/ability to learn ETC eExpress light board and Q-lab software.

  • Ability to translate the creative needs of artists into actionable plans within the constraints of the schedule and budget.

  • The position is full-time and requires approximately 40 hours per week. When additional hours are required during production weeks, the schedule will be offset by fewer hours during non-production weeks. This role requires non-traditional hours as needed. Applicants must be comfortable performing manual labor on an as-needed basis. This includes lifting objects 40+ pounds and working on ladders.


NOTE:

COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time, exempt position, which requires a mix of daytime, evening and weekend hours. Hours will be both remote and in person. Salary is $60,000/year. Benefits include health insurance, paid leave, vacation and paid holidays.

HIRING administrative assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION: Brooklyn performance meets civic space JACK seeks a flexible and dependable team member to provide administrative support to the two JACK Co-Directors Jordana De La Cruz and Skye E. Kowaleski with running our JACK’s 74 person capacity performance space. The ideal candidate will have a desire to work in multiple aspects of venue operations and production administration, take initiative, and have excellent time management skills. Responsibilities may include:

MARKETING: 

  • Gather promotional materials to create content for social media and e-blasts

  • Create content for social media, and e-blasts on Mailchimp 

  • Organize and execute cross promotional exchanges with other arts and community organizations. 

RENTALS: 

  • Support with managing rental inquiries and creating informational materials. 

  • Draft rental agreements. 

  • Provide onsite supervision for night/weekend rentals (on an as contracted basis for an additional hourly fee).

FACILITIES/ORG. ADMINISTRATION:

  • Order venue supplies. 

  • Support in maintaining organizational records

  • Answer office phone and check voicemails. 

  • Respond to requests for ticket exchanges and other audience inquiries. 

  • Run organizational errands as needed (e.g. to pick up equipment, trip to the the post office)

  • Maintain an up to date calendar of space. 

  • Support with managing grant calendars, donor database, and organizing donor/ grant materials

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • 3+ years of administrative experience.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to create materials in alignment with JACK’s aesthetics. 

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills and ability to  prioritize multiple critical requests. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, artists, and community members representing JACK in accordance with our values. 

  • Thoughtful, thorough, and solution oriented approach to projects. 

  • Takes initiative and is team oriented. 

  • Working knowledge of Canva, Mailchimp, OvationTix, Facebook, Instagram, and Google Suites.

COMPENSATION:  $25/hr

This is a part-time position. 20 hours per week. Hybrid in-person and remote. Flexible schedule to be determined in collaboration with the candidate. Tasks will vary weekly based on JACK’s programming/rental schedule and needs.
