On Leap Day 2016, JACK presents a concert of Brent Arnold's new music for string quintet, handbells, kalimbas, voices, and electronics. Expect heavy minimalism, art song, spirit voices, orgone energy, and weather manipulation.

On the program: a new set of music entitled You Are Psychic, selections from the upcoming show Rules to Follow in Cloud Engineering, and pieces from the albums Night, Exquisite and An Albatross and a Half. Many pieces will be performed for the first time.

Featuring guest vocalists Brittain Ashford and Brian McCorkle, cloud tank artist Jamie Hook, and the ensemble of Monica Davis (violin), Karen Waltuch (viola), Hannah Levinson (viola), Meaghan Burke (cello), Brent Arnold (cello), and Luke Shirock (metals and misc.)

Brent Arnold is a cellist and composer known for integrating electronics, unusual instrumental techniques, improvisation, and influences from Africa and the Middle East. He is a founding member of Dave Malloy's Ghost Quartet, and his original cello music is featured in three seasons of Louis C.K.'s hit show Louie. He has worked with the Antlers, Reggie Watts, Eyvind Kang, DJ/Rupture, Jherek Bischoff, Wayne Horvitz, Modest Mouse, Sleater-Kinney, and Filastine, among many others. His latest solo album, Night, Exquisite, was called “a journey” and “a beautiful record” by Vice magazine. He has performed as a solo artist throughout North America, Western Europe, and Japan. Brent studied the cello with Walter Gray (Kronos Quartet) and violinist Michael White (John Handy, Pharoah Sanders). He resides in Brooklyn, NY.
